We keep the entire process straightforward and transparent. From the moment your design arrives, our team works efficiently to turn your concept into a finished product with clear communication at every stage.

Design

You can send us your design concept, or simply share your ideas and we’ll create a custom coin design for you. There is no artwork fee when IDX produces your design. An artwork fee only applies if you choose to have the design manufactured elsewhere.

Revisions

Once the drafts are submitted to you, you may request revisions of any kind, with the exception of a complete redesign of the artwork. A complete redesign will incur an artwork fee of a 2-hour minimum.

Production

Once we receive your approval, we will send you an invoice for payment. Production begins once payment is confirmed. Our standard production time is 1–3 weeks for most coin orders of 1–300 pieces. Depending on the quantity, colors, and options selected, production may take up to 5 weeks before shipping. Expedited production may be available for some orders.

Mockups

Once we have your design ideas, we’ll create 2D mockups that include dimensions, colors, and any special features. Watermarked drafts will then be sent to the email address on file.

Approval

If you approve the artwork, please send us confirmation either by returning the signed draft or via email.

Delivery

Once production and the QC process have been completed, we will send you pictures of your finished coins along with the tracking number. We use 2-day shipping for every coin order, and all shipping is included at no cost to you within the lower 48 states.

Artwork and Mold Fees

As a general rule, IDX does not charge a mold fee on any quantities over 100. All artwork is billed at $65 per hour (2-hr min). This is paid upfront. If you decide to have IDX produce the coin it is credited off of the final invoice. The minimum mold fee for standard; non-3d coins is $125. For all 3D coins, the mold fee is $165. For single spinner the fee is $190 and double spinners the mold fee is $225 for all quantities

Challenge Coin Textures

Texture is a surface treatment applied to certain areas of a coin, creating slightly raised or recessed patterns such as cross lines or random spots. Shiny metal surfaces often feel too bright because the polished raw metal and dense plating resemble mirrors. Texture and antique finishes help reduce this glare.

Reduce excessive shine: Distributes light reflection to multiple directions, softening brightness.
Highlight designs: Brings out details of text, logos, and layered relief.
Decorative effect: Adds visual depth to plain backgrounds.
Practical benefit: Textured backsides help prevent scratches during transportation.

Texturing is formed directly through our molds, making it ideal for both 2D and 3D reliefs — all at no additional cost. This allows you to add richness and innovation to your coins without increasing your budget. If your design calls for a unique texture, simply let our support team know — we can produce any pattern you envision, even beyond our standard molds. Share your texture ideas with us today.

1 – Mostly smooth with a very fine, subtle matte grain (almost plain compared to the others).

2 – Smooth to lightly textured, soft brushed or fine sandblasted look.

3 – Fine, even stippling / light orange-peel texture.

4 – Dense, fine pebbled surface (small uniform raised dots).

5 – Tight field of small raised beads / dense dotted texture.

6 – Fine square mesh / screen / grid pattern.
